Dr. Brief or Burīfu Hakase is an elderly, brilliant and eccentric scientist of great renown. He is the founder of the Capsule Corporation , husband of Madame Brief, father of Bulma and Tights, grandfather of Trunks and Bra.

Bulma's dad is also one of the smartest and richest men in the world. He lives in the Western Capital with his wife and many animals. Like everyone in his family, Doctor Brief 's name is a pun on underwear, briefs being "underpants" in English.

He meets Goku while he is looking for his grandfather's Dragon Ball , in the middle of a battle against the Red Ribbon Army. Brief seems very attached to his home and hardly takes his daughter Bulma 's requests seriously.
